What is the Umami Information Center?

Umami was discovered in 1908 by the Japanese scientist, Professor Kikunae Ikeda.
Along with sweet, salty, sour and bitter, umami is one of the five basic tastes.
It is found in many foods, and is becoming increasingly well known around the world, with the Japanese word umami entering the international culinary lexicon.

The Umami Information Center carries out a number of activities in order to disseminate information about umami around the world, including the creation of websites & publications and the organization of seminars & symposia.
